Welcome To Seriously Sensitive

A meeting place for people with fragrance and other chemical sensitivities

Heavy Metal Testing

Doing a heavy metal hair test was one of the best things I’ve ever done. Around 2014, I started having all kinds of health issues, joint swelling, pain, brain fog, fatigue, and doctors could not figure out what it was. The standard blood panels did not show anything! I looked all over the internet for answers, and ultimately decided to do a heavy metal hair test, since I had (embarrassingly) continued using aluminum deodorant even after everyone said it was bad. To my surprise, my aluminum levels were low, and so were so many of the other common perpetrators, like lead, mercury, and arsenic. What was shockingly not normal, was my level of Palladium, one of the rarest metals on earth!! How would I have such high levels of this in my system that it was registering in my hair, which is apparently a very accurate test of recent exposure!!

I quickly learned that Palladium was only found in a few places, in water treatment facilities, deep within computer systems, and in certain dental amalgams, which narrowed it down pretty well. It took a month or two to identify that I had indeed received a palladium implant in 2010, which I had NEVER had a problem with. No sensitivities, infections, soreness. During this time, I was searching everywhere for information about possible effects of Palladium on the human body, and found resoundingly little. I did learn that it had been banned in other countries, such as Switzerland, due to harmful effects, and that it is no longer used in amalgams in the United States. I was also able to find the story of one other individual whose results showed high Palladium levels, so I did exactly what he did, verified the finding, remove the suspected agent, and then retested!!

This process took about 18 months, and I had to bring what little research I had to my dentist to explain why I wanted the Palladium implant out. He had taken out other types of fillings, but this was a new thing. The results below are from the first test, and then from a test, one year after I had the implant out. I wanted to make sure there was enough time for my body to get rid of it, and it worked! Also, the level of inflammation in my body has decreased significantly! One thing I have to note is that I was diagnosed with lupus in 2018, which is an auto-immune condition. My Rheumatologist always says that something has to set off the immune system for auto-immunity to start. I truly feel that heavy metal exposure was the culprit.

There is not a lot of research out there on the impact of Palladium on the body. I have found one abstract from an article by Italian doctors, Ivo Iavicoli and Luca Fontana, who work in public health. Although I could not get the full article, their abstract reads,

“Exposure to Pd can cause acute toxicity or hypersensitivity with respiratory symptoms, urticaria and, less frequently, contact dermatitis. Epidemiological studies have demonstrated that, among metals, Pd ions are one of the most frequent reacting sensitizers. This effect on the immune system represents the most important health hazard to humans.”

I find this tremendously frightening given that palladium amalgams were used for so many years, and are currently in so many people’s systems. Autoimmunity, sensitivities have skyrocketed, and no one has pinpointed why. I don’t think they’re looking in the right place……… Let me know if anyone has had a similar experience 🙂

In the meantime, light and love, be well…
